Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew, who has some free time on his hands this time of year, spent Sunday watching the NFL conference championship games. In his disgust over Chicago QB Jay Cutler exiting the NFC game with an apparent knee injury, Jones-Drew took a shot at former Florida coach Urban Meyer.
Jones-Drew, referring to Cutler, tweeted, “Hey I think the urban meyer rule is effect right now… When the going gets tough……..QUIT..”
Meyer resigned in 2009 due to health problems. He came back for the 2010 season (Florida went 8-5), but stepped down again in December, saying he needed to spend more time with his family. It was later reported that health problems were part of that decision, too, and Meyer did not deny it when given the opportunity late last month.
Florida defensive tackle (and citizen journalist) Terron Sanders informed Meyer of Jones-Drew’s Twitter insult, and said Meyer replied, “Who is that?”
Meyer did not fire back on his own Twitter account, but his teenage daughter, Gigi, had his back (her words come after the word QUIT):
